Pat Meinen has always loved photography. The challenge of creating a portrait that captures the personality and character of every one of his clients motivates Pat every day.

After graduating from the College of William and Mary in 1990, Pat became an apprentice in a portrait studio, while also taking photography courses.

In 1993, Pat started his own studio, working out of his home. He joined the Virginia Professional Photographers Association, the Professional Photographers of America and attended the Mid-Atlantic Regional School of Photography. In 1999, Pat's Studio moved into a custom built, 1,900-square-foot studio with a 2-acre portrait park just outside. This provides our clients with better service and allows for much more variety in portraits.

Pat has gone on to become certified by the Professional Photographers of America, identifying him as a photographer who maintains a high standard of technical skill and creativity. Only 42 photographers in the state of Virginia have obtained this designation.

Each year Pat enters prints in competitions with portrait artists from across the state. Over the years, the judges have granted Pat numerous awards, including choosing two of his portraits as among their twenty favorites from the hundreds submitted. These prints spent a year on the state's Traveling Loan Collection.

Pat is an active member of the Virginia Professional Photographers Association and is currently serving as the Chairman of the Board. Working with the association allows Pat to share ideas with other photographers, to learn about the latest techniques and equipment and to give back to his profession. In the spring of 2005, Pat earned the Fellow of Photography Degree from the VPPA.

Pat is supported in the studio by his wife, Beth. Pat and Beth endeavor to make everyone feel at home when they visit Pat's Studio. Each portrait begins with a free consultation during which we will discuss your likes and dislikes, whether you want a formal or casual portrait, and the story you would like your portrait to tell. At our studio we have a large window that gives us the opportunity to do portraits with natural light, in addition to having portraits made in our two-acre portrait park. Of course, portraits can also be created at a location that is special to you.
